Medical history books, almost uniformly extol the virtues of vaccination. Upon reading these books, one is left with the impression that during the 1800s and into the 1900s, there were rampant plagues that killed countless scores of people and that, because of vaccines, this is no longer the case. This is certainly what we believed growing up, and most people we talk to have a similar impression. It generally permeates society as an established fact. The problem with these statements is that they are not supported by the evidence.

Last month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics held its annual conference (The Food and Nutrition Conference & Expo, also known as FNCE) in Houston, Texas. Today, Dietitians for Professional Integrity — an advocacy group group co-founded by 14 dietitians that advocates for the Academy to cut its ties to its Big Food partners and sponsors — releases “The Food Ties That Bind”, a report that details the messaging Big Food shared with dietitians at 2013 FNCE.
The report highlights some of the educational materials provided by the likes of Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Kellogg’s, and General Mills at the conference.
The report also covers a much-anticipated point-counterpoint debate planned by the Academy that was supposed to touch on the issue of partnerships between the private and public sectors, but instead had one speaker staunchly defend GMOs, mock those who care about organics and sustainability.
This week, the new guidelines on preventing heart disease were released by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. The media reported widely about this. Now, for most people, monitoring LDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol levels is not indicated. If your risk of developing cardiac disease is over 7.5% over a ten year period, then statins are recommended. The risk can be calculated by going to the American Heart Association website and plugging in your cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol numbers as well as your age and whether you smoke or not.
It is hard for me to believe that this is where modern medicine is at. I guess nobody needs to see a health care professional anymore—just put your numbers in and if you have a 10-year heart attack risk of >7.5%,then you must take a statin for the rest of your life. I have one word for this nonsense: fugetaboutit.
People do not get vascular events from a lack of a statin medication. Vascular events occur from a myriad of reasons including eating a poor diet, dehydration, as well as nutrient and hormonal imbalances. Don’t be scared about the media headlines. As you become more educated you will be more comfortable making your health care decisions.
Recently, the latest guidelines (issued by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology) on preventing cardiovascular disease were launched in the US, with a great blare of publicity. Yet weirdly the guidelines now recommend that far more people start to take statins. Perhaps another forty million in the US alone.
When most people think about farm subsidies, chances are they do not immediately think “massive taxpayer money boondoggle that should be cut from the federal budget immediately.” They’ve probably heard about how hard it is out there for small family farmers, doing honest work in the world, keeping everyone fed and maintaining our institutional repository of agricultural practices. According to the Environmental Working Group, “at least 50 billionaires or farm businesses in which they had a financial interest benefited from $11.3 million in traditional farm subsidies between 1995 and 2012.” And the farm bill currently being considered contains changes that will likely increase the subsidies these billionaires take away.
The Kauai County Council has overridden Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho’s veto of Bill 2491, freeing the way for the GMO-related bill.
Bill 2491, which passed a County Council vote on Oct. 16, will force agricultural companies to disclose when and where they spray pesticides, restrict spraying to a certain distance away from public areas, and disclose what genetically engineered crops they grow on Kauai.
Codex Alimentarius is a joint project of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. It’s a collection of internationally adopted food standards and guidelines intended to facilitate global trade. There are a number of specialized subcommittees whose recommendations are formally adopted by the Codex Executive Committeem including the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU). One of the CCNFSDU’s tasks is to set “Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) for Food Labeling Purposes.” Translation: NRVs are the intake levels of nutrients deemed adequate to meet the needs of most people through fortification of these foods. According to most natural health experts, the NRVs set by the CCNFSDU are far too low for maintaining optimal health, much less correcting nutrient-based deficiencies and imbalances. Biofortification is the breeding of crops to increase their nutritional value. It differs from ordinary fortification, because it focuses on making crops more nutritious as they grow, rather than during processing. Biofortification can either be achieved conventionally—via traditional breeding techniques—or through genetic engineering. Essentially, this could be a backdoor method to releasing new GMOs crops onto the international market without proper vetting or labeling.

At a recent custody hearing, a judge ruled 10-month-old Jasmine must stay with her father overnight for two days.
“And if I do not comply, I will have my child taken away,” added Jessica.
The problem is, Jasmine still breastfeeds. And Jessica says the judge doesn’t care. Jessica says she’s not trying to keep Jasmine from her father, she just wants what’s best for her daughter.
“I’m very passionate about having that right to breastfeed,” she said.

A defamation lawsuit in New York alleges a court-appointed psychiatrist told a judge a man who refused to take his son to McDonald’s was an unfit parent.
David Schorr, 43, a Manhattan attorney, filed a lawsuit in city Supreme Court alleging court-appointed psychiatrist Marilyn Schiller filed a report in his custody battle saying he was “wholly incapable of taking care of his son” and should be denied weekend visitation rights for refusing to take his 4-year-old son to the fast-food restaurant.
On the surface, Johnson & Johnson’s $2.2 billion settlement this week for illegally marketing drugs to the elderly, children and the mentally disabled looks like a victory. J&J’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, will plead guilty to illegally promoting the antipsychotic Risperdal for “controlling aggression and anxiety in elderly dementia patients and treating behavioral disturbances in children and in individuals with disabilities,” reports Reuters. The promotions included a brazen kickback scheme to Omnicare Inc, a pharmacy supplying nursing homes, exposed by a whistleblower.
At least 15,000 elderly people in nursing homes die a year from drugs like Risperdal said FDA drug reviewer David Graham in Congressional testimony a few years ago. Eli Lilly, who makes the similar drug Zyprexa, and AstraZeneca, who makes Seroquel, have also settled charges that they churned the elderly drug market at the price of Grandma and Grandpa’s lives.
But it is not a victory. J&J made $24.2 billion off Risperdal from 2003 to 2010 and shareholders won’t even notice this week’s nano loss. J&J milked Risperdal for all it was worth and the patent had already run out by the time it was charged with illegal schemes.
Earlier this week VaxTrac, a non-profit organization supported by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, announced it’s new “Lumidigm multispectral imaging fingerprint sensors” were being used to build a biometric vaccination registry. The device is currently being used to build vaccine registries in some of the world’s poorest countries: Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Benin.
The new device is operated and managed in the field with low-cost mobile devices. Adult and child patients are identified in the registry with fingerprint sensors. By scanning finger prints, medical professionals can pull up their vaccination records with the touch of a finger.

Unlike western aid organizations, Helping Traditions and Christian Aid only work with local Filipinos – no funds will go to Americans or other foreigners, and neither Helping Traditions nor Christian Aid keeps any portion of the donation for administrative purposes. 100% of the funds given will go directly to relief. Emergency aid first, and later for rebuilding.
Our people on the ground in the Philippines are working now to secure healthy, nutrient dense local foods to supply to the needy areas. Western food is not used at all. We are immediately concentrating on supplying the following food items: coconut oil, coconut water, rice, and local sardines. It is very important that sick and injured people get nutritious food as fast as possible. During the 2004/2005 Tsunami tragedy in Indonesia, some people survived for days and even weeks by simply eating coconuts that had fallen to the ground during the storm. Genetics researchers from Taiwan’s National Central University have determined that over a third of herbal medicines used in Traditional Chinese Medicine – and nearly all leading therapeutic herbs – alter our genes or alter enzymes that alter our genetic material. The researchers analyzed 3,294 traditional Chinese medicines – combinations of herbs – and found that 1,170 or 36% will interact with enzymes that alter the histones that lie within our chromosome material. The histones organize the DNA during this chromatin condensation process. This relates directly to DNA repair.
The antibiotic pipeline is running dry as an increasing number of superbugs are outsmarting our antibiotics; we are on the tip of the end of the antibiotic age, which will change modern medicine as we know it. The CDC estimates that at least 23,000 Americans die each year as a direct result of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, with many more dying from complications; we presently have no tracking system for these infections. Of particular concern are bacteria possessing the NDM-1 gene which allows them to transfer their antibiotic immunity to your normal bacteria, thereby transforming ordinary bacteria into superbugs. Drug companies are no longer interested in developing antibiotics because they are not as profitable as other, more expensive drugs that can be given to people indefinitely, rather than for just two weeks. The most significant driver of this problem is the massive overuse of antibiotics by the agricultural industry, which administers 24.6 million pounds of antibiotics to livestock every year for non-medical purposes.
We previously reported how a homeschool family in Germany had their children force-ably removed from their home at gunpoint simply because they wanted to homeschool their children. The children have now been returned to their home, but only on the condition that their parents force them to attend a government-run public school, and that they do not leave the country.
Germany is the only western country that does not allow homeschooling. The ban on homeschooling began with a Nazi law passed in 1938, and the European Human Rights Court upheld that ban in 2006. Earlier this year, the Obama administration decided to challenge the legal asylum of a German homeschool family here in the U.S. Many people have questioned why the State Department would take time and resources to prosecute a peaceful homeschool family in the U.S. that had already been granted legal asylum?
When children are homeschooled they bypass many subsidized government programs, such as mandatory vaccines, school lunch programs based on subsidized commodity food, and others. A recent study that compared home-educated students to those in traditional schools, found that homeschooled children were less obese and healthier. Since the medical system recently voted to make obesity a disease which can now be treated with drugs and open up a whole new market for the pharmaceutical companies, it is not hard to see why governments are not big fans of homeschooling.
Why did Akron Children’s Hospital spend so much time and resources to prosecute this Amish family, trying to force a 10-year old to receive chemotherapy that neither she nor her family wanted, even after multiple judges ruled custody of the 10-year old to her parents, multiple times? What motivated this hospital to seek out a different judge to finally award custody of this 10-year old child to their hospital attorney, forcing the family to flee the country? The family has spoken out and given their side of the story, which the mainstream media apparently has no interest in covering.

Honoring the upcoming 50th anniversary of the death of C.S. Lewis, November 22, we are pleased to present excerpts from Center for Science & Culture associate director Dr. John West’s book The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis on Science, Scientism, and Society.
At the end of The Abolition of Man, Lewis issued a call for a “regenerate science” that would seek to understand human beings and other living things as they really are, not try to reduce them to automatons. “When it explained it would not explain away. When it spoke of the parts it would remember the whole. While studying the It it would not lose what Martin Buber calls the Thou-situation.”
Lewis was not quite sure what he was asking for, and he was even less sure that it could come to pass. Yet in recent decades we have begun to see glimmers. New developments in biology, physics, and cognitive science are raising serious doubts about the most fundamental tenets of scientific materialism. In physics, our understanding of matter itself is becoming increasingly non-material. In biology, scientists are discovering how irreducibly complex biological systems and information encoded in DNA are pointing to the reality of intelligent design in nature. In cognitive science, efforts to reduce mind to the physical processes of the brain continue to fail, and new research is providing evidence that the mind is a non-reducible reality that must be accepted on its own terms. What George Gilder has called “the materialist superstition” is being challenged as never before.
Fifty years after C.S. Lewis’s death, we are facing the possibility that science can become something more than the magician’s twin. Even in the face of surging scientism in the public arena, an opportunity has opened to challenge scientism on the basis of science itself, fulfilling Lewis’s own desire that “from science herself the cure might come.” Let us hope we find the clarity and courage to make the most of the opportunity.
The Nationwide Liaison Association of Cervical Cancer Vaccine Victims and Parents in Japan, assisted by some of Japan’s best medical scientists, and a few politicians with strong morals are doing everything they can to get HPV vaccines banned from their country. These people see Gardasil and Cervarix as vaccines with an unacceptable safety profile and very little proven benefit. Japanese safety advocates have already succeeded in getting their government officials to order both manufacturers (Merck and GlaxoSmithKline) to change the HPV vaccine package inserts to include stronger safety warnings to medical consumers regarding the possibility of ADEM, Guillain-Barre and neurological problems. Unfortunately, that is not enough. The citizens of Japan are tired of watching their young girls suffer from convulsions, seizures, partial paralysis, severe pain and a host of new medical conditions after being subjected to HPV vaccinations and are now publicly petitioning the ban of HPV vaccinations in Japan.
Each year, 60,000 patients are diagnosed with ‘head and neck cancer,’ which includes cancer of the mouth, tongue, pharynx, larynx, oral cavity, and thyroid. After ABC Australia aired Part 1, The Heart of the Matter, last week, Australia’s top medicine safety expert, Emily Banks, urged ABC not to air the follow-up, because it might encourage people to go off their anti-cholesterol statin drugs. “If people stop using their statins . . . it’s very likely that it will result in death.”

The FDA can count on mainstream media to mislead the public. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)’s bill, S.1424, is meant to “improve the safety of dietary supplements by [requiring] manufacturers of dietary supplements to register dietary supplements with the Food and Drug Administration and to amend labeling requirements with respect to dietary supplements.” Sounds innocuous, doesn’t it? But this is nothing but a smokescreen—a naked power grab for the FDA and an attempt to regulate safe dietary supplements as if they were dangerous FDA-approved prescription drugs.
While recent research is looking at the health consequences of consuming genetically modified foods, equally concerning is the failure of glyphosate and other herbicides to control a new breed of “demon weeds” that have arisen as a byproduct of the GMO industry. Many older and more toxic classes of pesticides are also returning to the market place as pests become resistant to GMOs, and the government is allowing increased use of pesticides for food production.
The Alliance for Natural Health has just released a new video highlighting the health concerns of these “demon weeds” as well as the toxic effects of glyphosate.

Outside of the United States, the myth that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease is quickly falling apart. Sweden just recently became the first western nation to reject the low-fat dietary philosophy in favor of a high-fat low-carbohydrate diet. A leading cardiologist in the U.K. made shock waves recently by appearing in the mainstream media and stating that saturated fats were not the cause of heart disease, but refined carbohydrates were.
Now, ABC TV in Australia has now released a news documentary with the title: “HEART OF THE MATTER: The Cholesterol Myth: Dietary Villains and Cholesterol Drug War.” This documentary interviews cardiologists, science writers, and other experts who expose the saturated fat and cholesterol myth.
People around the world are waking up to these dietary myths, as well as the scam of cholesterol-lowering drugs and how harmful they actually are. But given that exposing this myth threatens the loss of billions of dollars in profits in the United States, will the mainstream media and the U.S. Government follow other western nations?
Tropical Traditions recently announced that they had established their own standards for non-GMO products. The new standard is “GMO-Tested.” While other non-GMO claims might have as much as 1% presence of genetically modified DNA present, the Tropical Traditions GMO-Tested standard has a zero percent tolerance for the presence of genetically modified materials.

For scientist Jack Newman, creating a new life-form has become as simple as this: He types out a DNA sequence on his laptop. Clicks “send.” And a few yards away in the laboratory, robotic arms mix together some compounds to produce the desired cells.
Newman’s biotech company is creating new organisms, most forms of genetically modified yeast, at the dizzying rate of more than 1,500 a day. Some convert sugar into medicines. Others create moisturizers that can be used in cosmetics.
“You can now build a cell the same way you might build an app for your iPhone,” said Newman, chief science officer of Amyris.

In this just-published study by Dr. William Shaw in the Journal of Restorative Medicine, strong evidence is presented that acetaminophen (sold as Tylenol or Paracetamol) increases in the rate of autism, asthma, and attention deficit with hyperactivity in genetically and/or metabolically susceptible children. In the United States, acetaminophen is sold as an over-the-counter drug that needs no prescription, in spite of the fact that it results in death for hundreds of Americans each year. Many of the statistics on deaths and injuries due to acetaminophen was revealed in a comprehensive report earlier this year by ProPublica (See: Tylenol is Killing Americans).
The evidence presented in this study is very convincing, as it looked at autism rates in Cuba, where acetaminophen is only available via prescription, and not widely used. Will the FDA finally act to take popular acetaminophen drugs off the market, or are market forces so strong as to prevail, even in the face of such overwhelming evidence?

Prescription drug abuse the fastest-growing drug problem in the US according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as the number of deaths from opioid painkillers like hydrocodone and oxycodone rose nearly four-fold between 1999 and 2009.
The overdoses now kill more people than cocaine and heroin combined.
As we reported here in the past, our nation is losing our top nurses due to the vaccine issue, specifically forced flu vaccinations. Intelligent nurses who are knowledgeable of the risks of the flu vaccine are choosing to lose their jobs as opposed to complying to mandatory flu vaccines, which have been shown to be ineffective in protecting patients to begin with.
Now, some of our brightest young potential nurses are being culled out of nursing school simply for questioning the ethics involved in trying to coerce people into accepting vaccines against their will.

Earlier this month we published the story of 10-year old Sarah Hershberger, an Amish girl in Ohio, and how her parents took her off of toxic chemo therapy. The courts in Ohio overturned a previous judge’s ruling on her case and awarded custody of the girl to the hospital’s attorney, who is also a nurse. The hospital was claiming that Sarah’s life was in danger if she did not continue with the chemo therapy, but her parents were claiming that Sarah was doing better, and that the chemo therapy was actually killing her.
Now, David Michael of The Journal of Natural Food and Health is reporting that the Amish girl was part of an experiment of new drugs, and that the hospital’s motivation for getting custody of the girl and having her continue her therapy was because the hospital stood to lose substantial funding for ending the drug trial too soon. When you consider also the potential billions of dollars a pharmaceutical company can potentially make from a new cancer drug, it is easy to understand the hospital’s motivation to try and get custody of this child and have her continue the treatment, whether she needed it or not.
Michael has interviewed the parents, who reportedly left the country shortly before the court decision in early October, and where their daughter received alternative cancer treatment which is approved in Europe and other places, but banned in the U.S. As a result, their daughter Sarah has now been declared “cancer-free,” verified through laboratory tests. I have been in contact with one of the family members as well, who has confirmed that the information Michael is reporting is “100% accurate.” Akron Children’s Hospital has testified in court that Sarah would die without chemo therapy.
The Hershbergers would now like to return to the U.S. and be rejoined with their other 6 children, but they believe there is a warrant out for their arrest and that they will lose their daughter. They are raising funds to mount a legal challenge.
A new observational study published in the journal Nutrition, confirms that chocolate consumption may have significant health benefits. The European study titled, “Association between chocolate consumption and fatness in European adolescents,” found a higher chocolate consumption was associated with lower total and central fatness in European adolescents.
The anecdotal evidence for coconut oil treating and even reversing Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as other neuro-degenerative diseases, has become so strong, that you can be sure the medical community has definitely taken notice.
As we have reported numerous times, however, the Alzheimer’s Association and pharmaceutical companies will not fund studies on coconut oil, since it is a natural product that cannot be patented. Therefore, we can expect funding looking at research to develop patent-able drugs that mimic the effects of coconut oil, as the success of coconut oil in treating neuro-degenerative diseases continues to spread.
A study recently released by the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland might be one of the first of many such studies. The title of the study is “Coconut Oil Attenuates the Effects of Amyloid- on Cortical Neurons In Vitro.” Rather than study the dietary effects of coconut oil, or the ketogenic diet, on neuro-degenerative diseases, this was actually an in vitro study that examined “rodent cortical neurons exposed to AB peptide” and virgin coconut oil, most likely in a petri dish or beaker, inside of a laboratory.
Could they be setting the stage for yet-to-be-developed drugs that will mimic the effects of virgin coconut oil?
