New Ancient Grain All-Purpose Flour Blends that are Glyphosate-Tested for Holiday Baking!

Back in September of this year (2024) we announced that my online store, Healthy Traditions, was now offering Ancient Grain and Heirloom Wheat All-Purpose flours, which are tested for the presence of the herbicide glyphosate, and with no other chemicals or additives added that are present in modern wheat flours that fill the shelves of grocery stores in the U.S. Now, two months later, we have come up with two new blends of these Ancient Grain All-Purpose flours; one for baking products, and one for bread recipes where the flour needs to "rise" with yeast or sourdough cultures. Our Ancient Grain All-Purpose Baking Flour is great for flat breads, short breads, crackers, biscuits, brownies, cookies, and more! This flour is a blend of Einkorn, Spelt, and Khorasan Ancient Grain all-purpose flours, which are also available as single grain all-purpose flours. Our Ancient Grain All-Purpose Bread Flour is a special blend of Khorasan, Spelt and Turkey Red Wheat flours. These Ancient and Heirloom grains are known for being great for rising with yeast and sourdough bread recipes, which are also available as single grain all-purpose flours. These Ancient Grain All-Purpose flour blends are available in sizes of 2 lbs., 5 lbs., and 25 lbs. The holiday season can be challenging for those with dietary restrictions, as people tend to allow themselves to "splurge" a bit on sweets and baked goods. If you are preparing traditional holiday sweets and baked goods, at least be sure you are using uncontaminated flours with no chemical additives. These premium, high quality flours are not likely to be found in your local grocery store, even ones that are "organic" or "health food stores."

Restoring Wheat Flour to the Category of “Healthy”: Introducing Ancient Grain All-Purpose Flours Tested for Glyphosate!

Wheat has received a bad rap in modern times, being blamed for the cause of many diseases and illnesses. Many in the alternative health field show their belief in Darwinian biological evolution bias by claiming that wheat was never a plant that was good for human consumption, stating that human ancestors who evolved over millions of years were "hunters and gatherers", and never planted crops. However, even the evidence from archaeology clearly shows that ancient cultures were much more advanced than the evolutionists would have us believe, and were much more than simply "hunters and gatherers." When we read the historical records of the Bible, the most widely distributed collection of writings from antiquity, we read that man's first job as entrusted to him by his Creator, was as an agriculturist to cultivate the earth. For most of human history, until just recently in the "age of technology", grains were considered the "staff of life," and the most consumed food on the planet. So how did grains and food made from them become so unhealthy in modern times? Because most people who cut out wheat from their diet today become much healthier, and that is a fact that cannot be denied. The answer to this mystery lies in how grains are grown in the U.S. today, and then how they are processed after they are harvested and end up in the food chain as processed foods. Today we are introducing to the public own new Ancient Grain All-Purpose flours! For me personally, today marks the culmination of a 10-year journey, starting the day we tested our "organic" flours in 2014 that tested positive for glyphosate, to the sourcing of clean, ancient grains over the years, and now, all-purpose flours that are clean, and genetically purer as heirloom, ancient grains, than anything else you will probably find on the market. Let's reclaim grains as HEALTHY again!

Healthy Traditions Adds Flax Seeds Tested Clean of Glyphosate to Product Line

Healthy Traditions announced today that they have added Raw Brown Whole Flax Seeds to their line of GMO-tested and Glyphosate-tested products. Healthy Traditions is a brand of Tropical Traditions, and in 2014 Tropical Traditions tested their USDA certified organic grains for the presence of glyphosate. They were shocked to find many of their grains were contaminated with the herbicide glyphosate. In their search for new products that would test clean for the presence of both GMOs and glyphosate, they had a very difficult time finding flax seeds that tested clean for the presence of glyphosate. The area of the U.S. where most flax seeds grow are in northern states where desiccating crops with glyphosate is common practice to control the harvest prior to snowfall. Finally, almost 2 years later, they obtained samples from a farm in Italy that tested clean on the samples which were tested. They now offer this very high quality flax seed to their American market.

Healthy Traditions Announces Glyphosate-Tested Traditionally Produced Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Healthy Traditions recently announced the launch of their new product, raw Apple Cider Vinegar with "mother." Starting the last part of 2014, Healthy Traditions, a division of Tropical Traditions, Inc., has started testing all of its products for the presence of the herbicide glyphosate, since many of their USDA certified organic products were tested to be contaminated with glyphosate. Finding a supplier of Apple Cider Vinegar that could be tested and traced all the way back to the producer proved difficult, as many apple cider vinegars are produced with apples from many different orchards, meaning that a single batch test may not represent all bottles used in each batch. So they began to search for a single source orchard to produce their own apple cider vinegar. The Healthy Traditions Apple Cider Vinegar is made by hand on a small family farm in Wisconsin. This high quality and great tasting vinegar starts by hand picking a mixture of apples that are suited perfectly for cider, imparting a depth of flavors to the vinegar that are unique. The apples are grown in Wisconsin on a certified organic orchard that practices sustainable agriculture by using livestock to maintain the orchard floor. By rotating different animals in the orchard the caretakers are able to reduce weeds and insects that would hinder the apple production.

Healthy Traditions Adds Traditionally Produced and Glyphosate-Tested Rolled Oats to Product Line

Healthy Traditions' new Traditionally Produced Rolled Oats are grown on a small family farm in Wisconsin using sustainable methods without any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. As an added assurance they are also tested for the presence of glyphosate and no trace was found. We have tested many batches of oats nationwide, including those certified organic, and it has been extremely difficult to find sources with no trace of the herbicide glyphosate present. These oats are processed by a small family-run mill, also in Wisconsin, and are never subjected to any heat processing and are truly raw. This mill is dedicated to milling only grains grown on nearby farms that are free from pesticides and herbicides.

Healthy Traditions Adds Traditionally Produced and Glyphosate-Tested Raw Almond Flour to Product Line

Tropical Traditions announced this week that they have added Raw Italian Almond Flour/Meal to their Healthy Traditions product line. Unlike almonds grown in the US, that are required to be pasteurized by law, these almonds, grown in Italy, are free from that regulation. These almonds are grown by sustainable methods with no chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers used on the almond trees. It carries Healthy Traditions’ highest standards to earn the “Traditionally Produced” label. As an added security, they are tested for the presence of glyphosate for each batch.

Healthy Traditions Offers First-ever GMO-tested and Glyphosate-tested Heirloom Corn Products from Mexico

Over the past few years we have tried to find corn in the United States that tested clean for the presence of genetically modified material and the herbicide glyphosate. We tested corn products that were USDA certified organic, and corn that also made claims to be GMO-free. We found that all of them were contaminated. We have been successful in some years growing clean corn with our farmers in Wisconsin, but often subsequent harvest years turned up positive results of GMOs in our testing, forcing us to find new sources of open pollinated heirloom corn. As a result, we did not have much corn to sell to our customers, and some years we had none. But now, we have located some rural farms in Mexico that seem to have clean corn from native varieties. Healthy Traditions is excited to bring you a new line of products made from corn grown in the region where corn is thought to have originated, Central Mexico! In order to find a consistent supply of corn that tested negative for both GMO and glyphosate contamination, we began searching in Mexico, where commercial GMO corn production is currently banned because of the rich genetic diversity and cultural significance that corn has there. This open-pollinated corn has been grown in a traditional fashion, much the same way it has been done for hundreds, if not thousands of years in this region. The family of the farmer that grew this corn has a connection to the land for over a century, and the seed he uses has been passed down from generation to generation. Healthy Traditions views the opportunity to help preserve this genetically diverse corn as a great honor and one in which we are proud to be a part of. We are also pleased to work with a grist mill that has agreed to dedicate one of their stone grinders just for grinding GMO-tested and Glyphosate-tested corn. This mill processes no other grains in this facility and our corn is ground in small batches to ensure freshness.

FDA to Finally Start Testing for Glyphosate Herbicide in American Food

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are the two federal agencies in the United States responsible for protecting consumer rights in regards to food safety. Millions of dollars of U.S. taxpayer funds are spent on testing foods annually to monitor the presence of pesticides and herbicides in the nation's food supply. However, the most commonly used herbicide which is sprayed on to genetically modified crops is routinely not tested. Glyphosate, the main ingredient used in Roundup Ready, is the most common herbicide in the world, sprayed on many billions of acres of crops each year. Neither the FDA nor the USDA routinely test for the presence of this herbicide in the nation's food. That is apparently about to change. Civil Eats is reporting that the FDA will now start testing certain foods for the presence of glyphosate.

Tropical Traditions Increases Healthy Traditions Product Line: Emphasizing GMO and Glyphosate-tested Products

2016 looks to be a very promising year for our new Healthy Traditions product line. In late 2015, Tropical Traditions stopped carrying the USDA certified organic seal on all of their own products. Replacing the USDA organic standards is a new, more rigorous standard of classifying the types of products Tropical Traditions sells to the public. It is not a new standard for Tropical Traditions, as the new logos and product standards implemented reflect our values and quality of food that we have offered to the public since we started selling products in the United States in 2002. We made the decision to not continue certifying our products as USDA Organic late in 2014, when we discovered that most of the USDA Organic grains we were selling to our customers had residue amounts of glyphosate, the active ingredient in popular herbicides, the most well-known being Round-up, the #1 herbicide in the world. Tropical Traditions has a ZERO tolerance level for GMOs, herbicides, and pesticides, and since the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) allows small residue amounts of pesticides and herbicides approved by the EPA for conventional crops to be present in USDA Organic certified products, we knew that we had to develop our own standards to both use in purchasing products directly from producers, as well as to educate our consumers on our own values and standards.

Tropical Traditions Offers First Pastured Turkeys Raised on GMO-tested and Glyphosate-tested Feed

Tropical Traditions announced this week that they will soon be shipping their 2015 pastured turkeys raised on pastures in Wisconsin. This year's batch offers something new: the specially formulated Cocofeed that the birds consumed was not only soy-free this year, but also corn-free, and tested for the presence of GMOs and glyphosate.

Pastured Soy-free Chickens and Other Products Added to Glyphosate-tested Product Line

Tropical Traditions has added several products into their glyphosate-tested line of products. Late in 2014, when Tropical Traditions started to test some of their certified organic products for the presence of glyphosate, and found out much to their horror that many USDA certified organic products were contaminated with glyphosate, they also tested their certified organic poultry feed. Unfortunately, the level of glyphosate contamination was very high, much higher than any of the organic grains they had tested. So the search for glyphosate-tested feed that returned a zero result for glyphosate began. Due to the GMO contamination of USDA certified corn as well, it was determined to drop organic corn from the feed. It has now been replaced with milo (sorghum), a popular poultry feed ingredient in southern cultures. The Tropical Traditions Cocofeed is also soy-free, and includes coconut pulp. Tropical Traditions had to test each ingredient separately, and be sure that the test represented the entire batch from a specific harvest sourced back to the producers. This week (September 2015), pastured chickens raised on this glyphosate-tested feed are now available for purchase by the public.

Glyphosate-tested Heirloom Wheat Added to Healthy Traditions Network

Healthy Traditions has announced that it has added Glyphosate-Tested Heirloom Turkey Hard Red Winter Wheat to its network of GMO-tested and Glyphosate-tested food. Turkey Hard Red Winter Wheat is an heirloom variety of wheat first brought to America in the 1870s by Mennonites immigrating from Russia. Once the predominant wheat of Kansas, it was eventually replaced with modern higher-yielding varieties of wheat by the 1940s. It is quite rare today, not used in commercial agriculture, but mostly grown by small-scale family farmers.

More Products Added to Glyphosate-tested Program: Digestive Enzymes and Palm Shortening

Healthy Traditions has recently added the Tropical Traditions palm shortening and the Enriching Gifts digestive enzymes to its Glyphosate-tested program.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oils and Coconut Products Now All Glyphosate-tested

Tropical Traditions has finished testing all of their coconut oils and coconut products for the presence of the herbicide glyphosate. They now have a system in place to test each batch of coconut oil or coconut products exported from the Philippines for the presence of glyphosate. The Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil also carries the "Traditionally Produced" label, since this coconut oil is not mass produced by machine. It is a traditionally produced coconut oil made by hand in small batches, much the same way people in the Philippines have produced it for thousands of years. Tropical Traditions was the first company to import virgin coconut oil from the Philippines in 2002, and it remains one of the only premium coconut oils in the United States that is still produced using traditional methods, rather than being mass-produced by machine.

German Alps Grass-fed Butter Added to Healthy Traditions Glyphosate-tested Products

Grass-fed Traditions and the Healthy Buyer's Club online store has now added the German grass-fed butter from the Allgäu region of Southern Germany to their product line of glyphosate-tested products.

Glyphosate Testing Skyrockets After WHO Report on Cancer

U.S. consumer groups, scientists and food companies are testing substances ranging from breakfast cereal to breast milk for residues of the world's most widely used herbicide on rising concerns over its possible links to disease. The focus is on glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup. Testing has increased in the last two years, but scientists say requests spiked after a World Health Organization research unit said last month it was classifying glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans." "The requests keep coming in," said Ben Winkler, laboratory manager at Microbe Inotech Laboratories in St. Louis. The commercial lab has received three to four requests a week to test foods and other substances for glyphosate residues. In prior years, it received only three to four requests annually, according to its records. Tests by Abraxis found glyphosate residues in 41 of 69 honey samples and in 10 of 28 soy sauces; Microbe tests detected glyphosate in three of 18 breast milk samples and in six of 40 infant formula samples.

Tropical Traditions Announces First GMO-Tested and Glyphosate-Tested Corn Now Available

For the first time in over a year, Tropical Traditions is selling corn again. For the past few years, Tropical Traditions offered an open-pollinated organic heirloom corn and corn meal to its customers, grown by small-scale family farmers in Wisconsin. However, in the Fall of 2013, they found out that this corn had become contaminated with GMO DNA, and they were no longer able to offer it to their customers. Tropical Traditions has a ZERO tolerance level for the presence of GMOs and the herbicide glyphosate in their products. After much searching, the farmers in Wisconsin were able to purchase some seed corn for the 2014 crop that was open pollinated, and had tested to be free from GMO contamination. Knowing how far the wind can blow pollen from corn field to corn field, the farmers determined that simply shielding their corn from neighboring farms was not sufficient protection. Therefore, they calculated the time frame where they knew their neighbors' corn would be pollinating, based on when it was planted, and then planted their open pollinated GMO-tested corn at a later date, so that it would pollinate after the surrounding farms' cornfields were finished pollinating. In the Fall of 2014, this corn tested to be free of both GMOs and the herbicide glyphosate. It is now offered to the public, shipped direct from the farm as either whole kernel, or stone ground fresh into a corn meal.

Tropical Traditions Announces New Glyphosate-tested Program

Brian Shilhavy, CEO of Tropical Traditions, sent a letter recently to Tropical Traditions customers explaining why the company has had so many of its products out of stock or back ordered at the beginning of 2015. Tropical Traditions found out in late 2014 that much of the USDA certified organic wheat supply in North America was contaminated with residues of the herbicide glyphosate. Tropical Traditions has been in the process of testing all of its products for the presence of glyphosate since that discovery. Besides organic wheat and other organic grains that were tested positive for glyphosate and removed from the Tropical Traditions product line, they also tested and found glyphosate present in organic flax seeds, organic hemp, and organic freeze-dried strawberries. Products containing those ingredients are no longer available on the Tropical Traditions websites. Tropical Traditions also announced that they will be phasing out the USDA organic certification on its products, and replacing it with their new Healthy Traditions logos.
