Beta-Blockers Killed 800,000 in 5 Years: “Good Medicine” or Mass Murder?

Most people assume that scientific integrity is somehow assured; that there are safeguards along the way, preventing fraudulent research from harming patients. Unfortunately, scientific misconduct has become a very serious and widespread problem that threatens the entire paradigm of science-based medicine—unless changes are made. Again and again, papers assessing the prevalence of scientific fraud and/or the impact this is having shows that the situation is dire and getting worse. In short, we have lost scientific integrity, and without it, “science-based medicine” is just a term without substance. Conflict of interest is another pervasive problem within the research field, and the featured article highlights a case that contains both. Beta-blockers are drugs commonly used in the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. They work primarily by blocking the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and epinephrine (adrenaline) from binding to beta receptors, thereby dilating blood vessels, which reduces your heart rate and blood pressure. Until recently, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) also recommended using beta-blockers in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. A recent article in Forbes Magazine highlights how medical guidelines based on questionable science may have resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of patients in just a few years: “Last summer, British researchers provoked concern when they published a paper raising the possibility that by following an established guideline UK doctors may have caused as many as 10,000 deaths each year,” Larry Husten, editorial director of WebMD professional news, writes. Now, they have gone a step further and published an estimate that the same guideline may have led to the deaths of as many as 800,000 people in Europe over the last five years… The 800,000 deaths are comparable in size to the worst cases of genocide and mass murder in recent history.”

Deanna Protocol Offers Nutritional Program to Slow or Stop ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)

The Deanna Protocol is gaining national attention as an alternative natural treatment to slow down or even stop the progression of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's disease." In the video below the physician who discovered this protocol gives his story. He is a retired surgeon, and when his daughter was diagnosed with ALS, he looked beyond the conventional medical system, which offered no hope, and turned to nutrition and natural methods instead. The protocol utilizes GABA and other supplements (see Table below), along with a ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat low-carb diet that has been used to successfully treat many neuro-degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, and it has been successfully used to treat epilepsy where drugs fail. We have reported much of the research regarding the ketogenic diet here at Health Impact News. The ketogenic diet is currently being studied in its effect on starving cancer cells. Coconut oil is an important component of a ketogenic diet, as it provides ketones due to the presence of medium chain fatty acids. We reported the story of "Clarence" back in 2012, who claims he actually reversed ALS by eating large amounts of coconut oil.

Family Farm in Michigan Threatened with Armed Enforcement from DNR for Raising Heritage Pigs

Mark Baker of Baker Green Acres gives an update on their ongoing battle with the State of Michigan regarding their heritage breed free range hogs. Their case might be reaching a dangerous point with the State of Michigan, as Mark is reporting that a USDA field agent has stated in writing that Mark is a "gun-waving lunatic" and that the USDA would not come to visit his farm, but that "armed DNR agents" will come instead. Health Impact News has reported on the Baker Green Acres family farm situation since April 2012, when the DNR decided to label all free range hogs in the State of Michigan as illegal, by classifying them as "feral" pigs. Mark and others have reported that the new definition of "feral swine" adopted by the DNR in 2012 came directly from the commercial pork industry, which raises all commercial pork indoors in confinement. Since the State made it a criminal offense to keep their heritage breed hogs that have now been ruled illegal, most hog ranchers destroyed their herds and went out business. They did not want to face arrest on criminal charges. Mark Baker decided to challenge the ruling, however, and has been involved with a long legal battle with the State of Michigan since then. Various actions have been taken against the Baker family to try and force them out of business, such as levying a fine of $700,000 against them, and getting the USDA to refuse to process their pork at a USDA processing facility, effectively eliminating most of their market to sell their pork. Now, with court case getting closer, Mark is worried that since they believe they have such a strong case against the State, they may try something else before he gets his say in court. As you watch the video below for the latest update, he will explain that he and his family are peaceful people, and portraying him as "gun-waving lunatic" is not true.

Justina Pelletier Finally Leaves Boston Children’s Hospital, but not Returned to Parents

The Boston Globe and the West Hartford Patch are reporting that Justina Pelletier has finally left Boston Children's Hospital, where she was held captive against her desire, and the desire of her parents, for almost one year. She has not been returned to her parents, however. She has reportedly been transferred to the Wayside Youth and Family Support Network in Framingham, Massachusetts, and is still under the care of doctors at Boston's Children's hospital. A judge ruled earlier this month (January 2014) that Boston Children's Hospital could not indefinitely detain Justina in their Children’s Bader 5 psychiatric unit, and reportedly ordered that a plan be put into place to transfer her back to Connecticut, which is where her home is and where her parents live. It is also where Tufts Medical Center is located, the facility originally treating Justina before Boston Children's Hospital had the Massachusetts Child Protection Agency seize custody of Justina due to a disagreement over her treatment. Beau Berman, a local investigative reporter from Fox CT, has covered this story in depth. He gives background information regarding Justina's case, showing how Boston Children's Hospital has a history of seizing children from parents. Some of those children have even died. Unless a local media source picks up the story, or it happens to someone you know, most Americans are totally unaware that this is happening quite frequently in the United States. Medical tyranny is sadly a reality today in the U.S., and if you disagree with a medical professional over the care of your child, you face losing custody of your child. Justina's case is especially bizarre, because the parents were actually following a treatment plan for her that was recommended by doctors in their home town. Their only "crime" was to disagree with the doctors at Boston Children's Hospital and want to discharge her and take her back to her original doctors. Boston Children's Hospital is part of the Harvard Medical School system, with strong ties to funding from the federal government. Boston Children's Hospital "is home to the world's largest research enterprise based at a pediatric hospital. More than 1,100 scientists, including nine members of the National Academy of Sciences, 11 on-staff members of the Institute of Medicine and 9 members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute." Could it be that Justina is part of a medical research trial?

The Nutrition Monopoly Is Beginning to Crumble

When it comes to nutrition, it is very important that you have the right to freedom of choice and information. Unfortunately, organizations such as the American Dietetic Association (now calling itself the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or AND) are threatening your freedom of choice about health and nutrition. The AND has pushed state laws to block almost anyone, except their registered dietitians (RDs), from legally giving nutritional advice. Their mission is to censor the broader nutrition community, which includes many well trained and educated practitioners, such as clinical nutritionists, pharmacists, naturopathic doctors and traditional naturopaths, acupuncturists, herbalists, nurses, mental health professionals, homeopaths, personal trainers, and the like. All across the U.S., however, this nutritional monopoly is beginning to crumble, especially at the state level.

Organic, Cage-Free, Free-Range or Pastured: Sorting Through the Confusion on Egg Labels

Organic, Cage-Free, Free-Range, or Pasture-Raised Eggs? Dr. Mercola does a good job of defining some of the many terms used to label and market eggs. However, not only is the amount of free-range pasture an egg-laying chicken has access to important, but the quality of their feed as well, as the feed makes up the majority of their diet, even in pasture-based operations. Tests conducted at The Ohio State University have shown that chickens fed a high concentration of soybeans, will pass on the soy protein to the egg yolks of chickens. Hence, if soy is something you are allergic to or trying to avoid in your diet, you may not even realize that you are getting soy protein from your eggs – even organic pastured eggs!

Should the Federal Government Mandate GMO Labeling?

The video here is Joel Salatin's speech making the claim against federal initiatives to label GMO foods. He spoke in a debate with Dr. Mercola, who presented the pro-government labeling side. The debate was a fund-raising event sponsored by the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund in Atlanta. It should be noted that both persons debating are friends, and opposed to GMOs. Both sides actually make great points, but Salatin's message is the one less heard. He posted the transcript on the Polyface Farm Facebook Page here, which we copied below. It is a message that needs to be heard by all concerned about GMO products, and the dangers of relying on a government largely influenced by lobbyists from Big Ag and Big Food to do something to "protect" consumers.

Homemade Bone Broths for Healing, Including Fighting the Flu

Bone broths have a long tradition of being known to promote healing in several ways, including fighting off infections from viruses that cause the flu and colds. Bone broths also promote healthy digestion, reduce joint pain and inflammation, and they provide essential nutrition to promote healthy bones, hair, and nails. But to experience these benefits, you need to make your own bone broth from bones that come from healthy animals. Most commercial chicken, for example, are raised on a diet of high concentrations of soybeans, as well as arsenic and antibiotics. Packaged beef broths are most likely produced from leftovers after processing beef in CAFOs (confined animal feeding operations) and contain growth hormones and antibiotics. Seek out pastured chickens and grass-fed meats directly from the farmer, and then HANG ON TO THE BONES!! They are a rich treasure chest of good nutrition when made into broths.

Does the Flu Vaccine Cause H1N1 Infections? 5 Year Old Boy Dies from H1N1 Virus, Even Though He Was Vaccinated Month Before

A 5-year-old boy in Oregon died last flu season due to complications from the H1N1 virus. He and his siblings had received the flu vaccine the month before. As the H1N1 flu broke out all across America last flu season, almost every single news report stated the same thing: Go get a flu shot to protect yourself. No one is asking the tough questions, as to why last year's H1N1 outbreak was happening in the first place, when hundreds of millions of flu vaccines containing the H1N1 strain have been sold over the past few years. So here are Health Impact News we will ask the tough question: Could the flu vaccine be primarily responsible for the outbreaks of H1N1? Let's take a look at the data, and then you can make your own informed decision.
