Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design

Charles Darwin knew that there was a significant event in the history of life that his theory did not explain. In what is known today as the “Cambrian explosion,” 530 million years ago many animals suddenly appeared in the fossil record without apparent ancestors in earlier layers of rock. In Darwin’s Doubt Stephen C. Meyer tells the story of the mystery surrounding this explosion of animal life—a mystery that has intensified, not only because the expected ancestors of these animals have not been found, but also because scientists have learned more about what it takes to construct an animal.

Home Birth Safer Than Hospital Birth: Nation-Wide Study Netherlands

Yet another study, this one consisting of every birth in The Netherlands over two years, demonstrates that home births are safer than hospital births. Women are more than twice as lifely to end up in intensive care if they give birth in a hospital! Nonetheless, birth has been medicalized, resulting in enormous harm to both mothers and babies.

Stimulant Drugs for Children? A Ridiculous Concept

Doctors continue to prescribe a myriad of psychoactive drugs that have neither been properly studied nor proved to be effective. Today, children are being prescribed these stimulant drugs at an alarming rate. No one stops to consider the effects of diet and nutrition on a growing child's mental health. I have always marveled at the power of Big Pharma. They can take a dangerous class of medications—stimulants—which are addictive and prone to serious adverse effects, and convince both doctors and parents they are safe to give to children.

American Medical Association Opens The Flood Gates For New Vaccines and Drugs By Officially Declaring Obesity A Disease

The move by the American Medical Association board means that one-third of the U.S. adult population can now officially be diagnosed and treated with a flood of new drugs and vaccines which have been years in the making.

With No Evidence, AMA Votes that Obesity Is a Disease

We keep hearing that modern medicine is evidence based. So why did the AMA create the new disease of obesity by popular vote? Modern medicine prides itself on being evidence based. That, at least, is their claim. However, when it comes right down to it, the reality is entirely different. This is obvious in the American Medical Association’s (AMA’s) decision on Tuesday that obesity is now a disease. It makes no difference if an obese person is perfectly healthy. As far as they’re concerned, that person suffers from a disease.

Research: Garlic Supplement Slows Cardiovascular Disease Progression

Cardiovascular disease is the #1 cause of death within industrialized societies. A recent study published in the International Journal Cardiology indicates that aged garlic extract, in combination with vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin B6 and arginine, is capable of favorably altering the ratio of brown to white adipose (fat) tissue surrounding the heart muscle, reducing homocysteine (a blood vessel damaging amino acid) and slowing the progression of coronary artery calcification in human subjects.

Senator Durbin to Reintroduce Bill to Restrict Supplements

Make no mistake, there is a well orchestrated campaign underway to take away your rights and access to vitamins and supplements. Illinois Senator Durbin is planning to reintroduce his supplement bill, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act (S 1310), which would grant more power to the FDA to regulate dietary supplements like they were drugs.

University of South Florida Byrd Institute to Conduct Clinical Trials on Coconut Oil and Alzheimer’s

The University of South Florida Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute has announced that they will conduct an 8-month pilot study investigating coconut oil for individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. Coconut oil has made dramatic improvement in many people with Alzheimer's, and Health Impact News has published many of these testimonies.

Buckwheat: Great for your Garden and your Diet

Buckwheat is one of those gluten-free plants that may be unfamiliar to most Americans. It is a staple crop in parts of China, Russia and Eastern Europe, but is less well known to U.S. food consumers. Buckwheat is a relative of sorrel, dock and rhubarb, whose 'fruit seeds' are a great source of nutrition, cancer fighting phytonutrients, antioxidants and fiber. There are some powerful benefits offered by buckwheat in the garden and in the diet, not the least of which is its ease of growing and ability to thrive without fertilizers or pesticides.

Stop junk food giants from taking over nutrition programs

This petition was created because The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which represents Registered Dietitians, has been hijacked by junk food companies, including Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, PepsiCo, Hershey’s, and more. This is bad news for the American public, which is facing a public health crisis of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and obesity.

The Benefits of a Ketogenic Diet and its Role in Cancer Treatment

A ketogenic diet, which calls for minimizing carbohydrates and replacing them with healthy fats and moderate amounts of high-quality protein, can offer hope against cancer, both for prevention and treatment. Your normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from using glucose to using ketone bodies. Cancer cells lack this ability so when you reduce carbs to only non-starchy vegetables, you effectively starve the cancer.

Cheese—A Nutritional Powerhouse that Can Help Protect Your Heart, Brain and Bones

Cheese contains the powerful nutritional triad of calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K2, which together channel calcium into your bones and teeth while keeping it out of your arteries. This, combined with its omega-3 fats, make cheese a very heart-healthy food.

Open Sesame! 10 Amazing Health Benefits Of This Super-Seed

Sesame is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world, prized as an oilseed for at least 5,000 years. While it is beginning to regain favor due to its exceptionally high calcium and magnesium content, few realize it is also one of the most potent medicinal foods still commonly consumed today. In the past twenty years, a glut of scientific information has poured in demonstrating that sesame seed, and its components, have over three dozen documented therapeutic properties. Given these new revelations, it would seem that sesame would be just as at home in a medicine cabinet as it would be a kitchen cupboard.

Study: GM Salmon Breed with Trout, Create Superfish

Genetically modified salmon are more dangerous than anyone had realized. It’s now proven beyond doubt that they can interbreed with not only wild salmon, but also trout. Worse, the result is offspring that grow even faster than their parents and can outcompete them by a huge amount.

Diet Soda Found to Be as Bad as Meth or Crack Cocaine for Your Teeth

A recent article in the New York Daily News highlighted study findings that a steady consumption of diet soda can result in the same type of tooth decay and erosion as that caused by methamphetamines and crack cocaine. Soda, whether regular or diet, has no positive place in a healthy diet. There’s simply no reason to ever give your child soda.

New Studies Confirm: Raw Milk A Low-Risk Food

Three quantitative microbial risk assessments (QMRAs) recently published in the Journal of Food Protection have demonstrated that unpasteurized milk is a low-risk food, contrary to previous, inappropriately-evidenced claims suggesting a high-risk profile. These scholarly papers, along with dozens of others, were reviewed on May 16, 2013 at the Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, BC (Canada), during a special scientific Grand Rounds presentation entitled "Unpasteurized milk: myths and evidence." The reviewer, Nadine Ijaz, MSc, demonstrated how inappropriate evidence has long been mistakenly used to affirm the "myth" that raw milk is a high-risk food, as it was in the 1930s. Today, green leafy vegetables are the most frequent cause of food-borne illness in the United States. British Columbia CDC's Medical Director of Environmental Health Services, Dr. Tom Kosatsky, who is also Scientific Director of Canada's National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health, welcomed Ms. Ijaz's invited presentation as "up-to-date" and "a very good example of knowledge synthesis and risk communication."

As Fecal Transplants Cure and Save Lives, FDA Classifies Poop as a Drug and Restricts It

Fecal Microbiata Transplant (FMT) has been documented to cure disease and save lives. It has primarily been studied in treating anti-biotic resistant bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile where some doctors have reported a 100% success rate with no side effects. Because doctors were using fecal matter from healthy people to cure C. diff and other diseases, the FDA stepped in and declared fecal matter as a "drug." Since it is a drug they have not approved, it now officially in Phase 1 of the drug research and approval process, a process that can take many years. In a letter from the FDA to the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), they stated that FMT is not to be used by physicians, other than in life saving situations subject to a formal IND (Investigational New Drug) application. So why would the FDA make the ridiculous claim that someone's healthy poop is a drug, and start regulating a safe therapy that has saved so many lives, cured so many with bowel diseases, and has virtually no recorded adverse effects?

Could Your Morning Coffee Ward Off Skin Cancer?

Is coffee a health elixir or an addictive toxin? The evidence goes both ways. But a study from Rutgers University now casts another vote for the health benefits of coffee. It finds that in addition to drinking that morning cup, you may even want to bathe in some coffee as a way of preventing harmful sun damage or skin cancer.

Polio Vaccine Fails in India due to Polluted Drinking Water

A Bloomberg article reveals that the polio vaccine is a failure in India. The vaccine is ‘failing to work’ in kids getting as many as 15 doses of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) in one of the most expensive public health campaign flops in history ($9 billion).

Japan Health Ministry no Longer Recommending HPV Vaccines due to Dangerous Side Effects

The health ministry of Japan has issued a nationwide notice that cervical cancer vaccinations should no longer be recommended for girls aged 12 to 16 because several adverse reactions to the medicines have been reported. “It is necessary to gather information immediately to accurately grasp how often (the side effects) are occurring,” said Mariko Momoi, who chairs the panel at the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry that decided to suspend the recommendation. Momoi is vice president of the International University of Health and Welfare. Mika Matsufuji, 46, who represents an association of cervical cancer vaccination victims’ parents, said the health panel’s decision was a “big step forward.” Her daughter, who was vaccinated with Cervarix in 2011, lost the ability to walk and is now in a wheelchair, she said. The group is calling for the vaccinations to be halted.
