Dr. Bernhoft Explains the “Science” Behind GMO Foods and Why You Want Them Labeled

Dr. Robin Bernhoft was one of the first doctors in the U.S. to recognize the toxic effects of GMO, and to see positive results in his patients after prescribing a diet free of GMO foods.

Dr. Robin Bernhoft is a fellow and past president of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine and director of the Bernhoft Center for Advanced Medicine in Ojai California. Dr. Bernhoft, MD, was born in Fargo, North Dakota, graduated cum laude from Harvard College and earned his MD at Washington University Medical School, St Louis. After surgery residency at UCSF, where he published over twenty scientific papers, and a liver/pancreatic surgery fellowship in London, England, he entered private practice in the Seattle area, joining the clinical faculty of the University of Washington Medical School. After several years of busy surgical practice, he became environmentally ill, from leaving disinfectant on his hands throughout 600 operations per year. The toxic chemicals he absorbed swamped his ability to detoxify, and gave him skin, respiratory and GI problems which caused him to lose 35 pounds in four months. In order to understand what was happening to him, and to survive, Dr Bernhoft retrained in environmental medicine, 2002-6. By applying what he learned, he regained his health, and shed his sensitivity to perfumes and mold.Dr Bernhoft is now able to run 20 to 30 miles per week, and is three belts short of black belt in Shito Ryu karate. He has his life back, and is eager to use what he has learned to help others regain theirs.

In this video Dr. Bernhoft discusses the various health impacts of genetically-modified food at a GMO conference in support of GMO Labeling Inititatives. The current come coming up is in Washington State, Ballot Initiative I-522.

Diet Soda Sales Plummet as Consumers’ Understanding of Deadly Health Risks Grow

Soda consumption is now in “freefall,” having dropped to its lowest point since 1995, with diet sodas taking the greatest hit.

One of the largest studies of its kind found that drinking just two diet drinks a day can increase your risk of an early death from heart disease by 50 percent. Previous research looking at aspartame toxicity also found a clear association between aspartame consumption and non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and leukemia.

Russia Bans Import of GMO Products – Promotes Organic Food

Russia will not import GMO products, the country’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said, adding that the nation has enough space and resources to produce organic food.

Moscow has no reason to encourage the production of genetically modified products or import them into the country, Medvedev told a congress of deputies from rural settlements on Saturday.

“If the Americans like to eat GMO products, let them eat it then. We don’t need to do that; we have enough space and opportunities to produce organic food,” he said.

Obesity Now Threatens to Overtake Hunger as Global Health Concern Number One

In 1950, the number of starving individuals on Earth was estimated to be around 700 million; 100 million people, primarily in rich countries, were obese. By 2010, the world’s hungry had marginally grown to 800 million, while the number of obese citizens of the world had exploded to 500 million. Estimates suggest that by 2030, more than one billion people, worldwide, will fall into the obese category.

Study: Roundup Herbicide 125 Times More Toxic Than Regulators Say

A highly concerning new study published in the journal Biomedical Research International reveals that despite the still relatively benign reputation of agrochemicals such as Roundup herbicide, many chemical formulations upon which the modern agricultural system depend are far more toxic than present regulatory tests performed on them reveal. Roundup herbicide, for instance, was found to be 125 times more toxic than its active ingredient glyphosate studied in isolation.

Food Security: Why Congress Should Care About the Beepocalypse

Food Security: Why Congress Should Care About the Beepocalypse

This year, food security is set to suffer another big setback, and the culprit could not be cuter: honeybees. Last winter, America’s beekeeping industry lost nearly half of all its bee colonies. And the numbers keep falling. Last summer, in the largest bee kill on record, more than 50,000 bumblebees were killed in Oregon as a direct result of exposure to an insecticide applied to trees for cosmetic purposes.

The killing has gotten so bad that people are calling it a beepocalypse. This is a serious situation. One-third of the food produced in North America depends on pollination by our honeybees. Nearly 100 varieties of fruits depend on honeybee pollination, from almonds (which are California’s third-largest export) to avocados to apples to cranberries.

America, then, must act fast if we want to save our bees, our food and our economic productivity.
