Alternative Health looks at alternative ways of treating illness apart from the medical system.

Less Than 1 Tsp Ginger and Cinnamon Daily Relieves Muscle Soreness

Many well-intentioned workout resolutions have been thwarted by the first signs of sore, stiff muscles in the days following a visit to the gym. A new study finds that two common kitchen spices, cinnamon and ginger, help relieve that post-workout muscle pain.

Sensible Sun Exposure Can Help Prevent Melanoma, Breast Cancer, and Hundreds of Other Health Problems

Exposure to sunlight increases nitric oxide production in your body, which lowers blood pressure and benefits your cardiovascular system. According to researchers, this benefit alone may outweigh the potential skin cancer risk. Vitamin D from sensible sun exposure appears essential in preventing 16 different types of cancer, including melanoma, and a host of other health problems like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, fractures, and infections.

Green Tea Compounds Effective Against Tumors and Genetic Diseases

Tea is the most popular beverage in the world and many people drink it for its pleasant taste, comfort, and general health benefits. But green tea can do much more. It can save lives. Researchers at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia discovered that two compounds found in green tea show great promise in the treatment of two types of tumors and a deadly congenital disease.

What the Science Says About Intermittent Fasting

It's long been known that calorie restriction can increase the lifespan of certain animals. More recent research suggests that intermittent fasting can provide the same health benefits as constant calorie restriction, which may be helpful for those who cannot successfully reduce their everyday calorie intake. Both intermittent fasting and continuous calorie restriction have been shown to produce weight loss and improve metabolic disease risk markers. However, intermittent fasting tends to be slightly more effective for reducing insulin resistance.

Homeschooling Growing Seven Times Faster than Public School Enrollment – Will Government Restrict It?

As government becomes more and more intrusive into how they believe parents should raise their children, many families are choosing to educate their children at home at an increasing rate. Health Impact News has reported many stories of places across the country that are refusing school attendance based on mandatory vaccines, or stories of local government officials, such as "child protection services", forcibly entering into homes and removing children by force for simply not following their prescribed ideas for medical care. But will the government move to restrict parents from educating their children at home? A recent case where the State Department decided to prosecute and deport a German homeschool family that had fled Germany and their Nazi-era prohibition against homeschooling to seek asylum in the U.S. may give us some clues regarding current attitudes in U.S. government towards homeschoolers in America.

Study: Your Gut Bacteria Affects Your Brain Function

The secret to improving your mood and brain health is in your gut, as unhealthy gut flora can impact your mental health, potentially leading to issues like anxiety, depression, autism and more. Home Birth Safer Than Hospital Birth: Nation-Wide Study Netherlands

Yet another study, this one consisting of every birth in The Netherlands over two years, demonstrates that home births are safer than hospital births. Women are more than twice as lifely to end up in intensive care if they give birth in a hospital! Nonetheless, birth has been medicalized, resulting in enormous harm to both mothers and babies.

Research: Garlic Supplement Slows Cardiovascular Disease Progression

Cardiovascular disease is the #1 cause of death within industrialized societies. A recent study published in the International Journal Cardiology indicates that aged garlic extract, in combination with vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin B6 and arginine, is capable of favorably altering the ratio of brown to white adipose (fat) tissue surrounding the heart muscle, reducing homocysteine (a blood vessel damaging amino acid) and slowing the progression of coronary artery calcification in human subjects.

Senator Durbin to Reintroduce Bill to Restrict Supplements

Make no mistake, there is a well orchestrated campaign underway to take away your rights and access to vitamins and supplements. Illinois Senator Durbin is planning to reintroduce his supplement bill, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act (S 1310), which would grant more power to the FDA to regulate dietary supplements like they were drugs.

As Fecal Transplants Cure and Save Lives, FDA Classifies Poop as a Drug and Restricts It

Fecal Microbiata Transplant (FMT) has been documented to cure disease and save lives. It has primarily been studied in treating anti-biotic resistant bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile where some doctors have reported a 100% success rate with no side effects. Because doctors were using fecal matter from healthy people to cure C. diff and other diseases, the FDA stepped in and declared fecal matter as a "drug." Since it is a drug they have not approved, it now officially in Phase 1 of the drug research and approval process, a process that can take many years. In a letter from the FDA to the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), they stated that FMT is not to be used by physicians, other than in life saving situations subject to a formal IND (Investigational New Drug) application. So why would the FDA make the ridiculous claim that someone's healthy poop is a drug, and start regulating a safe therapy that has saved so many lives, cured so many with bowel diseases, and has virtually no recorded adverse effects?

Studies Show Cinnamon and B Vitamins can Help Prevent Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer's disease is currently at epidemic proportions, with 5.4 million Americans—including one in eight people aged 65 and over—living with it. There is no known cure, and few truly effective treatments. Two recent studies show that compounds in cinnamon, and vitamins B12, B6, and folate may delay the onset and/or slow progression of the disease.

Dr. Offit Ignores Data that Conflicts with his Agenda to Attack Supplements and Promote Drugs

Dr. Paul A. Offit, chief of the infectious diseases division of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, thinks vitamins should be treated as drugs, stating that people receive enough nutrients through their regular diet and do not need supplements. He ignores data that conflicts with his agenda and only cites studies that suggest negative effects of supplementation and excludes important evidence to the contrary. This approach could very well be due to the fact that he will soon be publishing a book bashing alternative medicine.

Turmeric Produces ‘Remarkable’ Recovery in Alzheimer’s Patients

Turmeric has been used in India for over 5,000 years, which is likely why still today both rural and urban populations have some of the lowest prevalence rates of Alzheimer's disease in the world. A recent study on patients with Alzheimer's disease found that less than a gram of turmeric daily, taken for three months, resulted in 'remarkable improvements.'

Monsanto Among 50 Biotech Front Groups to Form New Coalition Called Alliance to Feed the Future

The United Nations established the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 1962. Over the years, Codex has been embroiled in controversy for a number of reasons, but now our investigations show that Monsanto―one of the world’s largest producers of genetically-modified seeds―is behind a significant number of front groups that control Codex policy. Most recently, more than 50 industry trade groups formed a new alliance called Alliance to Feed the Future. These groups represent multi-national food, biotech, and chemical companies that generate hundreds of billions of dollars-worth of revenue each year. They aim to become the go-to source for “real” information about the junk being sold as “food”.

Child Protection Services Investigated in California After International Child Abduction Uproar in Sacramento

The California State Assembly has voted to audit the reported abuse of power by the Child Protection Services after the highly publicized case of Anna and Alex Nikolayev, who had their baby removed from their home by force simply because they wanted to seek a second opinion regarding recommended heart surgery on their child. The case drew international attention since the father is a Russian national, and Russia accused the United States of violating the couple's human rights.

Why the NIH Uses Bogus Study to Malign Ginkgo Biloba

A new NIH study proclaiming that Ginkgo biloba causes cancer is so absurd you must wonder if they produced it with a straight face. More important, though, is why—and the reason is truly frightening. It’s part of a system determined to steal all natural health methods and hand them to Big Pharma & Big Medicine for profits.

Which Chemicals in Your Home Are Toxic? EPA Doesn’t Know!

Chemicals are used to produce 96% of manufactured consumer goods. Many of them are toxic. In 1976 Congress passed the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to regulate the introduction of new or already existing chemicals. Under the TSCA the government must, for the most part, prove that a chemical is unsafe before it can be removed from market, instead of requiring manufacturers to prove that their chemicals are safe in the first place. A recently introduced piece of legislation hopes to plug the holes in the thirty-seven year old TSCA, one of the few pieces of legislation that has never been amended. Toxic chemicals can be found in a tremendous number of everyday products from BPA in food containers to flame retardants on our furniture, which can spread to the dust on the floor that children can ingest when playing. Flame retardant chemicals have been linked to lower IQ and the development of diabetes. Toxic chemicals can cause a number of health problems, and exposure to chemicals in the womb can have long-lasting affects on the child’s life. This bill will go a long way toward getting rid of, or at least identifying, the toxic chemicals that citizens may be encountering on a daily basis.

Major Victory as Portland, Oregon Votes NO on Water Fluoridation

Portland, Oregon (the largest non-fluoridated city in the US) has successfully voted to keep fluoride out of its pristine water supply. Fluoride is a toxic substance that accumulates in your tissues over time, wreaks havoc with enzymes, and produces a number of serious adverse health effects, including neurological and endocrine dysfunction. As a result, individual communities around the US have taken up the fight to end water fluoridation in their own local areas.

A New Bill Would Include Nutritional Supplements in Health Savings Accounts

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and three of his colleagues have introduced S 1031, a bill that would allow Health Savings Account (HSA) funds to go toward dietary supplements without having to get a doctor’s prescription; the same would apply to Health Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). The legislation, called the Family and Retirement Health Investment Act of 2013, does this by expanding the term “medical care” to include dietary supplements, and it would allow spending up to $1,000 each year. A companion bill, HR 2194, was introduced in the House by Rep. Erick Paulsen (R-MN).
