Members of Hodos are Exiles on Earth – Our Inheritance is not in This World

A true believer in Jesus Christ who follows the narrow path of Truth and finds themselves constantly going in the wrong direction that the rest of the people on this planet are traveling, is a member of Hodos.

“Hodos” is the Greek word that means “way” or “path”, and it is the term that the New Testament believers used to identify themselves as a group. It is based on the words of Jesus himself in John 14:6:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This “way” (Hodos) is the road least traveled, because it is the more difficult path.

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matthew 7:13-14)

Those of us in Hodos are considered “aliens” and “strangers” on earth, as we live here in exile, waiting to go home to our real home in the Kingdom of God, where our future inheritance is waiting for us.

What has replaced Hodos in modern American culture is “Christianity”, which is a perversion of Hodos and a dangerous cult.

It is very easy to distinguish the difference between the two, as Christianity is the dominant group in America, and is in no way, shape, or form the “narrow way” that follows Truth, and Jesus Christ.

Christianity is the easy way, but its path leads to destruction.

We are seeing it in real time today, as Christians are the ones supporting the War in Iran which is causing death and destruction for so many people in the world, and will soon cause destruction in the U.S. as well. See:

True believers in Hodos following the narrow, difficult way of Jesus, do not support the killing of people from other nations. They take the word of Jesus Christ literally, which is to go out and “make disciples of ALL nations”, teaching them the Way (Hodos) of Christ.

And Jesus came and said to them,“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

The early believers who obeyed this command, paid a great cost to do so, because they went against the crowd in their pursuit of the Truth.

They were kicked out of the churches (synagogues), many were imprisoned, and some were executed.

They knew that this world was not their home.

I began studying Peter’s first letter in the New Testament this week, and Peter was a true believer in Jesus, and a member of Hodos. He spent time in jail, more than once, and the Jewish authorities tried to kill him.

Here is what he wrote in the first chapter of 1 Peter:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written,

“You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. (1 Peter Chapter 1)

The Greek word in the original texts for what is translated into the English here as “exile” is παροικία (paroikia), which means a sojourning, temporary residence in a foreign land.

This word is only used one other time in the New Testament, in Acts 13:17:

The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. (Acts 13:17 – KJV)

The Israelites lived in Egypt for over 400 years, but they always saw their residency there as temporary, as strangers and aliens, until they could go to their own homeland, the “promised land.”

However, for those of us living in this day and age in the New Covenant period, we know that the “promised land” is not here on earth, and that the inheritance of true believers, first promised to Abraham, is also not here on this earth.

The Christians who are false believers want to seek the glory of worldly empires who are all controlled by Satan, such as the nation of Israel and the United States of America, instead of going against the crowd to follow the Truth, and suffering for it.

The closer you walk to the Truth, and the straighter your narrow path becomes making your choices obvious, you risk losing EVERYTHING this world has to offer you, including your family, your “friends”, and your worldly possessions, even your earthly “home.”

And the only reason anyone would do that, is because they BELIEVE God’s word, and they are patient to endure the suffering and persecutions, knowing that our inheritance is not on earth, but in the Kingdom of God, as well as our future permanent residency home.

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

For,

“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.”

And this is the word that was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:22-25)
