Maggie Spilner of “Live in the Now” has written a nice summary of eight natural ways to support thyroid health:
1. Get enough iodine
2. Take a multivitamin
3. Consider coconut oil
4. Take vitamin D
5. Watch the soy
6. Avoid consuming raw cruciferous veggies in excess
7. Avoid refined sugars and starches
8. Exercise regularly
These are generally good things, although I do caution on the taking of multivitamin supplements. Testing should occur first to determine vitamin and mineral deficiencies. And while Ms. Spilner correctly states that fermented soy products might not be a problem, she incorrectly lists “tofu” as a fermented product, which generally is not.
