Leslie over at Pixiepine recently shared a natural deodorant recipe that was easy and even fun to make.  I’ve been chatting up this pit concoction to other hoopers and friends so I thought I’d share the recipe and my experience with it.

5-6 Tbsp Coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch
10-15 drops of favorite essential oil

I used 7 drops cardamom, 4 drops ginger and 4 drops lemon essential oils and cornstarch for my first test batch. I also halved the recipe.Slightly warming the coconut oil in a small microwavable bowl, I melted it down enough to incorporate everything easily. Then I poured it into little flip-top container and had enough leftovers for a smaller travel-size. I let it cool and solidify before closing the containers. Next time I’ll make prettier labels ~ these labels were just to alert me not to eat what’s inside, altho it probably wouldn’t taste half bad if I did.

I’ve been using this for a week now and, for the most part, I’m staying dry, comfy and non-stinky. Yesterday was the first day I actually took it to the limit at Flirty Girl Fitness class, and, later, at an impromptu hoop-a-thon and dance-off at the bowling alley for the bro-in-law’s birthday. This morning I don’t smell like roses but I don’t reek either. Tolerable natural-style, I’d say ~ musk, tinged with slight herbal smell. This is success if you saw how I was killin’ it on the dancefloor last night.

Then again, I’m not a heavy sweater. (Or a light cardigan, either… huh?)  Make your own batch and test it out on yourself and report back your findings. I wonder if results would be different with arrowroot?
