I wrote in this post about how great it felt to be 1 year Gluten Free and what a life changing experience it was for me. One of the scarier issues was losing about 1/3 of my hair in just a few weeks. It was so bad I was afraid to comb it or even to shower. My hair has all come back full and healthy but not quite as shiny and with the same texture it once had. I tried this hair mask and love the effects. I was worried that putting oil on my hair would leave it limp and greasy feeling but it was just the opposite, it is light and full of body.
I took this picture of my hair right after shampooing out the mask to show you how light and silky it left my hair. Thanks again Rachelle for another great idea!
Ultra Moisturizing Coconut Oil Hair Mask
1. Begin by shampooing your hair, use a stripping shampoo if you have one.
2. Dry your hair about half way. You can use a blow dryer or just let it air dry.
3. Place 1 -3 tsp. of coconut oil in your palm, waiting a few minutes for it to melt. Rub it between your hands and then through your hair. If you have oily hair avoid the roots. If you have a dry scalp and hair rub it throughout your entire head massaging into the scalp.
4. Pile your hair on top of your head and cover with a plastic shower cap or a large baggie slit up one seam.
5. Dig out your favorite beanie or winter cap and place it over the baggie. The idea here is to warm up your head to help your hair shaft absorb the oil. Leave on for 1-2 hours.
6. Remove the cap and plastic, wash and style your hair as you normally would.
