There are very few people in the western media, both corporate and alternative, who seem to fully understand the significance of the announcement this week that Saudi Arabia’s largest oil company, Aramco, is investing $BILLIONS in China’s growing petrochemical industry.
SINGAPORE (Reuters) -Saudi Aramco raised its multi-billion dollar investment in China by finalising and upgrading a planned joint venture in northeast China and acquiring an expanded stake in a privately controlled petrochemical group.
The two deals, announced separately on Sunday and Monday, would see Aramco supplying the two Chinese companies with a combined 690,000 barrels a day of crude oil, bolstering its rank as China’s top provider of the commodity.
Aramco said on Monday it had agreed to acquire a 10% stake in privately controlled Rongsheng Petrochemical Co Ltd for about $3.6 billion.
The deal includes the supply of 480,000 bpd of crude oil to Rongsheng-controlled Zhejiang Petrochemical Corp (ZPC) for 20 years, Aramco added.
It follows a preliminary agreement Aramco reached with the Zhejiang provincial government in 2018 for a 9% stake in ZPC.
The deals are the biggest to be announced since Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the kingdom in December where he called for oil trade in yuan, a move that would weaken the U.S. dollar’s dominance in global trade.
Aramco’s investments highlight Riyadh’s deepening ties with Beijing which have raised security concerns in Washington, Riyadh’s traditional ally.
In a deal brokered by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to re-establish relations earlier this month after years of hostility that had fuelled conflicts across the region.
Beijing’s secret role in the breakthrough shook up dynamics in the Middle East, where the United States was for decades the main dealmaker. (Full article [2].)
Aramco was originally the name for the Arabian American Oil Company, founded by the Standard Oil Co. of California (Chevron) in 1933, when the government of Saudi Arabia granted it a concession.
Other U.S. companies joined after oil was found near Dhahran in 1938. (Source [3].)
In 1973, the Saudi government bought a 25% interest in Aramco, increasing that interest to 60% the following year.
In 1980, the Saudi government increased its interest in Aramco to 100%. Eight years later, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (now renamed Saudi Aramco) was officially established.
I worked in Dhahran in the early to mid 1990s, teaching English at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. It is a huge university with around 10,000 students, and the entire curriculum is taught in English, hence the need for many English teachers.
But as large as the campus in Dhahran is, it is quite small compared to the Aramco company compound directly next to the University. We had many American (and Filipino) friends at Aramco back then, and often visited them at the Aramco compound.
Driving into the Aramco compound was like driving into the suburbs of a modern U.S. city, where you could literally find all the same comforts you could find in the U.S., even though you were out in the middle of a desert. Even the women there drove cars at that time, while outside the compound, it was forbidden (at that time).
Back in the 1990s, Americans still mostly ran the company, as they transitioned to Saudi management and more members of the board of directors came from the Saudis.
But things are very different today, as this announcement of investing in China clearly demonstrates. Gone are the days when Saudis were simple nomadic shepherds living in the desert of the Arabian peninsula, where oil was discovered by the Americans in the 1930s.
Gone is the Saudi respect for the Rockefeller oil industry and their puppet politicians, as recent comedy skits produced by Saudis mocking Joe Biden clearly show.

Today, Saudi Aramco is the largest oil producer in the world, and is the world’s most profitable company, eclipsing even tech giants such as Apple and Alphabet’s Google. (Source [8].)
Are the days of Ishmael upon us?
In most western countries where Christianity is the main religion, we know all about Abraham’s son Isaac, and Isaac’s son, Jacob, who was renamed as “Israel,” from the historical records in the Bible.
The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.” (Genesis 32:27-28)
But Isaac was not the only son born to Abraham. Ishmael was also born to Abraham from the “Egyptian maidservant named Hagar.”
Seldom, if ever, have I heard Christians talk about the fact that God blessed Ishmael as well as Isaac, and made specific promises and prophecies regarding him also.
God said “yes” to Abraham’s request to bless Ishmael.
And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!”
Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. (Genesis 17:18-20)
So are the days of Ishmael here, and the fulfillment of God’s promises and prophecies made thousands of years ago to bless Ishmael?
