Alzheimer’s Weekly

About 1½ years ago, I was seeing my wife of 45 years rapidly slip away from me with Alzheimer’s disease. I felt devastated, hopeless and angry. The emotional burden was almost unbearable.

But in the summer 2011, my wife started consuming 6 tablespoons of coconut oil plus other natural supplements on a daily basis. Three months later her worst Alzheimer symptoms (hallucinations, getting lost while driving, belligerent behavior, depression, unable to understand movie plots, unable to subtract in 7s from 100, unable to use her cell phone and the TV remote control) reversed completely and never came back. The only symptoms that remain to this day are sporadic recent memory failures.

Today she drives herself everywhere without getting lost, she is extremely happy and engaging, she recovered her ability not only to subtract but also multiply and divide large figures, and she again understands movie plots again and makes sound comments about the events in the movie. Her judgments of real life situations are also very sensible.

Besides the coconut oil, during the 3 months reversal period she was also taking the following supplements: Ubiquinol 100mg, Huperzine A 400mcg twice daily, Vitamin B complex 1000% B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12, Folic acid 1mg, Vitamin C 500mg, Vitamin E400mg, Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg, Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 mg, and Omega3 fish oil 6000mg.

After that reversal period, I started giving her 9 tablespoons daily of 50% coconut oil mixed with 50% MCT oil, and I also added the following supplements to her previous list:Vitamin D3 1000mg, Curcumin 400mcg twice daily, Magnesium Citrate 400mg,Phosphatidyl-Serine 500mg, Chromium Picolenate 500mcg, and Mitochondrial Energy Optimizer 1 capsule.

A PhD Nutritionist from Tufts University who is the Vice Chairman of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee for the USDA has come out and condemned coconut oil.

Does being involved in research for GMOs, the soybean industry, and developing cholesterol guidelines used to sell statin drugs create any conflict of interest in her advice? Do you trust USDA dietary advice regarding edible oils?

Aside from using coconut oil as a basic cooking oil for all different types of stovetop cooking methods, this oil is also suitable for baking. Coconut oil can be used in two main ways for baking: as a natural non-sticking agent, and as a baking fat (such as shortening, butter, and other oils).

Coconut Oil Cooking Spray: Healthy or Toxic?

Coconut Oil Cooking Spray: Healthy or Toxic?

One of the most popular products available to the general consumer to combat the issue of baked and cooked food sticking to cooking surfaces is non-stick spray. A good reason to avoid these sprays is the fact that many of them are made with unhealthy oils and lecithins, generally derived from GMO crops such as soy or corn.

But what about if they are made from a healthy oil, such as coconut oil?

Unfortunately, these cooking sprays also contain heavily processed ingredients, including propellants. Propellant is what pushes the spray out of the can, and is usually made from such things as nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, or propane.
